 What is BBPS?


BBPS stands for the Bharat Bill Payment System. It is an integrated bill payment system in India that offers interoperable and accessible bill payment service to customers through a network of agents, enabling multiple payment modes, and providing instant confirmation of payments. The system was introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to facilitate the streamlined and efficient payment of bills such as electricity, water, gas, telephone, and more. BBPS aims to centralize bill payment processes, reduce the complexity of managing multiple bills, and enhance the convenience and security of bill payments for customers across the country.


What is BBPS TSP?



Technology Service Providers (TSPs) are entities authorized to offer various services to stakeholders within the BBPS ecosystem, including BBPCUs, BBPOUs, and other partners as required. These services encompass development and backend technical support, facilitating the onboarding of new billers and merchants, enabling channel and platform integration, overseeing the development and enhancement of new categories, facilitating the implementation of new use cases, and managing COU/BOU sites. Additionally, TSPs are responsible for spearheading new innovations and features to enhance the overall efficiency and functionality of the BBPS ecosystem.


BBPS BOU


BBPS Biller Operating Unit refers to a component within the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) framework. In the BBPS ecosystem, a Biller Operating Unit (BOU) serves as an interface for billers to interact with the BBPS platform.

Here's how it works: Billers, such as utility companies or service providers, register with the BBPS system through a Biller Operating Unit. This registration allows them to present their bills electronically on the BBPS platform, making it convenient for customers to pay their bills online through various channels like internet banking, mobile banking, or authorized agents.

The BBPS Customer Operating Unit is a crucial element within the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) framework. It serves as the interface for customers to interact with the BBPS platform for making bill payments.

Here's how it works: Customers, whether individuals or businesses, utilize the BBPS Customer Operating Unit to access and pay their bills electronically through various channels such as internet banking, mobile banking apps, or authorized BBPS agents.
